The V Congress of the National Network in Cultural Studies (RNEC) proposes a space for critical reflection on the cultural practices that shape the present and future horizons. Under the theme “Culture and Intervention: from Signifying Practices to Future Scenarios,” the meeting invites researchers, artists, lecturers, students and cultural practitioners to debate the ways in which culture acts, intervenes and projects social transformations.
The congress aims to map contemporary cultural dynamics, highlight innovative methodologies, and open a space for discussions that engage with visual culture, media, the arts, community intervention, critical pedagogies, cultural trend studies, cultural policies and possible futures. We are interested in understanding how signifying, symbolic, aesthetic, political, educational or performative practices participate in the construction of new cultural grammars and in the imagination of socially relevant futures.
The V RNEC Congress seeks to consolidate itself as a space for open, interdisciplinary and plural dialogue, reinforcing the public relevance of Cultural Studies in Portugal and across Europe. In this sense, proposals for papers are invited that engage with the following thematic axes:
- Signifying Practices and the Production of Meaning
- Media, Digitality and Cultural Transformations
- Visual Culture, Image and Configurations of the Present
- Cultural Policies and Collective Dynamics
- Interculturalities, Hegemonies and Resistances
- Identities and Cultural Circulations in the Lusophone Space
- Gender Representations and Intersectional Perspectives
- Education, Culture and Processes of Transformation
- Body, Arts, Performance and Modes of Intervention
- Memory, Heritage and Social Reconfiguration
- Cultural Trends and Future Scenarios
