The International Conference on Advanced Research in Virtual and Rapid Prototyping (VRAP 2013), organised every two years since 2003, is recognized as one of the most important world events in virtual and physical prototyping. VRAP 2013 is designed to be a major forum for the scientific exchange of multi-disciplinary and inter-organisational aspects of virtual and rapid prototyping and related areas. In 2013, we are expecting to gather participants from more than 30 countries, similarly to what happened in all previous editions, strongly engaged in the development of innovative solutions to solve Industry’s problems, contributing to a more pleasant and sustainable way of life.
This year, VRAP 2013 International Conference will be held at Leiria, from October 1 to 5, 2013. Leiria is a beautiful city with a striking royal castle, built in 1135 by the first king of Portugal, Dom Afonso Henriques, and it was the setting of several cortes (feudal parliaments). The historical city centre spreads between the castle hill and the river Lis. The city of Leiria is located near the western coast, in the central region of Portugal, with a Mediterranean climate and oceanic influence. In the 20th century, its strategic position in the Portuguese territory favoured the development of a diversified industry. The wood from Leiria surrounding pine tree forests were used to build the ships used in the Portuguese Navigations in the 15th and 16th centuries.
